Go behind the scenes.
Nanaimo Backstage Pass
A FREE youth-led, instructor guided video on-camera theatre journalism program connecting young people (ages 10-25) with Nanaimo's theatre community.

Our youth reporters meet actors, directors, playwrights, designers, visit rehearsals, and discover the creative work behind a production.

Local Theatre through Young Eyes
How does a director bring a story to lie? How does an actor become a character? What goes into creating the costumes, sets, and sounds of a show?

Nanaimo Backstage Pass puts young people in the interviewer's seat to explore these questions --and share what they discover with you.

Watch Backstage Pass
Discover local artists, explore the work behind the curtain, and find out what's happening on Nanaimo's stages.

Learning by Doing
With guidance from NYPT's Artistic Director, participants research production, choose questions from an ever-growing age-appropriate "Question Bank", practice interviewing, and work together to record their conversations.

Young people can contribute as reporters, camera operators, or editors, while building communication skills, confidence, and experience in storytelling. Along the way, they learn listen closely, ask thoughtful follow-up questions, and jhelp their guests feel confortable sharing therr work.
